We gott a puppy about a week ago and I am so entertained by how very much they are like babies! I've had lots if experience with newborn babies and older through babysitting but never with six week old puppies and I am realizing sleepless nights, constant attention, and the whole potty training scene doesn't just occur with cuddly infants. Last night I had Finn (the puppy) in my room in his crate and he cried virtually all night and when he wasn't crying, he was whimpering in his dreams, scratching himself, chewing on his bone and many other annoying midnight activities. He, like the average baby, cries when he wants to get his own way. I know how to detect this in children yet when it comes to the puppy I couldn't tell if he was crying because he was simply unhappy that it was bedtime or because he genuinely had to go outside. I played it safe and took him out only to find that I had unconsciously taught him when he cries he gets out if the crate and wins the battle. I now know better then to respond to a few whimpers and will hopefully retrain him to know I am not a pushover because today...he's been pushing every button a puppy can know to push!
